Knights Claim Two Top Five Finishes at NIWFA Championships

MADISON, N.J. - FDU Fencing completed action at the NIWFA Championships Saturday evening, and teh Knights are heading back to Hackensack with two top five finishes at the tournament on Saturday.

The FDU Foil squad was led by Sara Szeverenyi who won 12 of her 13 bouts on Saturday, and the FDU foil squad notched big time wins over Army, Navy, and Rutgers. Szeverenyi continued to be the highlight of the day for the Knights as she entered the individual round as the number one overall seed due to her lights out performance in the team round. Szeverenyi would finish the meet tied for 3rd in the Foil Weapon category, and the Knights team would finish fourth out of the 14 teams competing Saturday.

Freshman Lauren Colella was a standout for the Women's Epee team, as she won nine of her 13 bouts at the meet in the team section. FDU's Epee crew also found wins over Rutgers and Army. Colella entered the individual bracket as the 10th seed, and was able to win two bouts, upsetting the seventh and the second seed in the Women's Epee bracket. The Epee team also finished with a fourth place finish out of the 14 teams comepting.

Finally, the Knights Saber squad was not able to find the same sucsess as the other two teams, as the Knights Saberists finished in 10th place.
