SPARKILL, N.Y. - It was not the night the Burgundy and Blue (5-5) were hoping for as they were defeated by St. Thomas Aquinas (8-6), 3-0. The win extended the Spartan winning streak to five matches, after defeating other Northeast Conference foes in LIU, Daemen, and D'Youville.
Things looked ominous early for the Knights as they just could never find a rhythm in the tiny Spartan Athletic Complex. The first set was closely contested with neither team having more than a two-point edge. FDU hit .217 to STAC's .367, but could not execute down the stretch giving the Spartans the set on a service error. The second set saw STAC run away with it, jumping out ot a 10-4 advantage and keeping the Knights at bay as the visitors hit .000 on the set. The final set was close until the Spartans gained the lead at 17-16 and din't look back to close out the match.
Sophomore middle blocker
Rayjan Suarez Palacios set his season-high in kills in the match with seven.
FDU returns to friendly confines of the Bogota Savings Bank Center to face Dominican on Friday, March 7 at 7p.m. The match will be broadcast on NEC Front Row.
