Women's Basketball Clinches 2024-25 NEC Regular Season Title

HACKENSACK, N.J. – FDU women's basketball (23-3) defeated Saint Francis (10-17, 8-6) by a score of 60-33 on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Knights clinched the 2024-25 NEC Regular Season Championship.

It is the fourth time in program history that the Knights have won the NEC Regular Season title. It is also the third time in four years that the Knights have done so. With the title, FDU will be the one-seed in the upcoming NEC Tournament, and have home-court advantage throughout.

It was a storybook day in Hackensack, as the Knights also celebrated Senior Day. A pre-game ceremony honored senior Allie McGinn, as well as graduate students Abby Conklin, Abaigeal Babore, and Teneisia Brown

The Knights picked up the victory in dominating fashion, blowing the doors off Saint Francis from the first tip. FDU began the game on a 16-2 run, and proceeded to hold a lead for the entirety of regulation.

The three-ball played a big factor in the early lead for FDU. The Knights converted five shots from downtown in the first half alone, helping to build their monstrous lead.

The defense from FDU was also stifling in the contest. The Knights held Saint Francis to just a 30.6% shooting mark from the field. FDU also held Saint Francis to single digits in both the first and fourth quarters. The most points the Red Flash scored in a quarter was 11 in the third.

FDU received some help from CCSU to clinch the regular season title. Following the Knights' win, FDU had clinched a share of the crown. CCSU upset Stonehill just a few minutes after the final buzzer in Hackensack, which gave FDU sole possession of the NEC Regular Season title.

The win extends FDU's program-record win streak to 16 games, one of the longest active streaks in all of Division I.

THE STATS

  • Four different Knights scored in double figures in the win.
  • The Knights defense was utterly lock-down, holding Saint Francis to just 31 points.

  • Teneisia Brown continued her red-hot stretch of play, recording her sixth-straight double-double.
  • The Knights converted eight shots from downtown in the victory.
  • FDU eviscerated Saint Francis on the boards, out-rebounding the Red Flash 44-to-30.
