McDonald, Downey Sweep NEC Weekly Awards

BRIDGEWATER, N.J. – The NEC released their weekly women's basketball awards on Monday afternoon. The FDU Knights swept the awards for the third time this season. Kailee McDonald was named the NEC Player of the Week, and Reese Downey was named the NEC Rookie of the Week.

Both players received the honors following tremendous performances in the Knights' win over Lafayette on December 4, their lone contest of the week.

McDonald lit up the Bogota Savings Bank Center in the victory, leading the way with a career-high 23 points. The sophomore also knocked down a career-high seven threes in the victory. The seven threes by McDonald mark the most in a single game by any NEC player this season. Seven threes also slots in at second place in FDU's all-time single game records. McDonald also brought in seven rebounds and recorded a steal in the win. It is the first time in McDonald's career that she has been named the NEC Player of the Week.

Reese Downey was named the NEC Rookie of the Week for the first time in her career. Downey joined McDonald in putting on a shooting clinic against Lafayette. The freshman knocked down three triples in the victory, en route to a career-high 11 points. Downey also dished two assists and recorded a steal in 23 minutes off the bench.

McDonald joins teammates Ava Renninger (2x) and Madlena Gerke as NEC Player of the Week award winners this season. The Knights have won each of the past four NEC Player of the Week awards, and have won four of the five given out by the NEC this season.

Downey joins teammate Leah Crosby (2x) as NEC Rookie of the Week award winners. The Knights have now won three-straight Rookie of the Week awards between Crosby and Downey.

McDonald was also named an NEC Prime Performer for her efforts during the week. Joining McDonald on the Prime Performer list was Ava Renninger. Renninger scored 12 points with seven assists in the Knights' victory over Lafayette.

FDU will be back in action on Wednesday, December 10, when they travel to face Saint Peter's. The Knights and Peacocks will tip off in Jersey City at 6 p.m. Coverage will be available on ESPN+.
