LORETTO, PA – FDU women's basketball (11-3, 1-0) hits the road this week for a trip to Keystone State to face two NEC rivals. Things kick off Thursday when the Knights face the Saint Francis Red Flash (3-12, 1-1). Tip-off will be at 7:00, with coverage available on NEC Front Row.
The Knights look to build off an impressive NEC opener that saw them defeat Wagner 75-49 on Saturday, January 4. That game saw four different Knights reach double figures as the Knights moved to 7-0 at home on the 2024-25 season. The squad will also look to keep momentum moving after one of the best non-conference starts in program history. The Knights finished their non-conference slate with a 10-3 record, their best since the 1991-92 season which also saw them finish 10-3. That 1991-92 campaign was also the last time any NEC program finished with at least 10 wins in conference play.
A number of Knights are also primed to continue impressive seasons throughout the conference slate. Freshman
Ava Renninger has made waves for FDU as one of the biggest standout freshmen in the conference. Renninger leads the Knights in scoring with 13.6 PPG on the season. That number also leads all NEC freshmen, and ranks fourth among all NEC players to this point in the season. Renninger is coming off of a 14-point showing against Wagner that saw her make a career high four three-pointers.
Teneisia Brown is another name that has made buzz for the Knights this year. Brown, a three-time NEC/Atlantic Tomorrow's Office Player of the Week. Brown is second on the Knights in scoring, with a total of 13.3 PPG. That mark is also good for fifth among all NEC competitors. Brown is also averaging 9.6 RPG, which leads both the team and conference.
The Knights will also be looking to continue some recent success against the Red Flash. FDU has swept the season series against Saint Francis in each of the past two seasons. The last meeting between the two programs came on February 17, 2024, when FDU defeated SFU 68-48 in Loretto, PA.
Saint Francis heads into the match-up sporting a 3-12 record on the season, including an even 1-1 start to conference play. The Red Flash dropped their most recent contest to Stonehill on Saturday, January 4 by a score of 73-59.
The Red Flash feature one of the more balanced rosters in the Northeast Conference. Ten different players log at least 15 minutes-per-game for head coach Keila Whittington. The team is led by sophomore guard Yanessa Boyd, who averages a team-high 8.7 PPG in 28.4 MPG.
Following the bout against Saint Francis, the Knights will travel further into Pennsylvania for their first-ever meeting with Mercyhurst on Saturday, January 11.
