Box Score NEW YORK, N.Y. – The FDU Knights battled the Columbian Lions to a scoreless draw Thursday night in New York City. With this result FDU moves to 0-2-4, while Columbia moves to 0-1-3.
"It was a very good match for us," said head coach
Eric Teepe. "We talked about wanting to play a full 90-minutes and I felt that for a majority of the game we were in possession and moved the game forward."
The first half was even in terms of shots and shots on goal. Each team placed two of their four total shots on target.
The Knights nearly took the lead on a free kick from Katia Cardaba in the 13'. The Columbia keeper handled Cardaba's initial dangerous shot and then scrambled to save
Elisa Garcia's attempt off the rebound.
In the second half, Columbia put significant pressure on the FDU defense. The Lions launched seven shots with two of them finding the woodwork, including one in the 88'. Columbia totaled four shots in the final four minutes of the game, but FDU's defensive unit held them off.
"We are really getting better as a unit day in and day out," remarked Teepe on his team's defense. "We are working with our holding mids, and they have helped us out, so we are becoming solid there."
The Knights' starters handled the bulk of the minutes in this match. Nine of the starting eleven played over 83 minutes. The grouping of
Mona Schlegl,
Leighann Kafel,
Elena Cvetkovic,
Laura Martinez and Garcia all logged 90-minute shifts. Schlegl has now played every minute of all six matches for FDU this season.
