RIVERDALE, N.Y.- Saturday's rainy affair between FDU and Manhattan saw the Knights get on the board first before Manhattan ripped off six unanswered goals in a match the Jaspers would win, 17-6. The loss leaves FDU still seeking their first win of 2024 as they fall to 0-6, 0-1. The Jaspers improve to 3-2 in nonconference play.
Nora Codianni started the party at Gaelic Park with her sixth goal of the season. The freshman is third on the team with eight total points. Codianni did her part on the defensive end as well, causing two turnovers and scooping up three groundballs in the contest.
Codianni's early goal seemed to wake up the Jaspers defense and they held the Knights scoreless for the next 15:49 of play. Manhattan scored six goals in that span.
Brielle McInaw (6) finally stopped the FDU drought with a goal that cut the Jaspers' lead to 6-2 midway through second quarter.
Karly Dillabough (4) followed McInaw up with a goal that snapped a two-game goalless skid for the young attacker.
A scrappy effort saw the Knights continue to claw back. Goals from
Riley Eaton (9) and
Jenny Spencer (2) made the score 7-5 in favor of Manhattan at the half.
Manhattan came out and dominated the terms of possession in the second half. They scored ten goals, outshot the Knights 20-8, and allowed just one goal in the final 30-minutes. Five goals in the third period gave them a comfortable enough margin to put the finishing touches on a 17-6 win in the fourth.
In the end, Manhattan outshot FDU 37-17.
Eaton and Santana have now registered goals for FDU in all six games this season. Santana also added an assist today.
WHAT'S NEXT
The Knights are back home next week and will take on Merrimack in NEC action at University Stadium on March 9. Last year, FDU fell 18-10 at Merrimack in the two programs only ever meeting.
