Skyhawks Spoil Knights' NEC Opener

NORTH EASTON, Mass.- The FDU Knights dropped their first NEC contest of the season on Saturday afternoon at the hands of Stonehill. The game also marked FDU's first road game of the 2024 season. With the 15-6 loss, the Knights fall to 0-5 on the year.

FDU got goals from five different players, including two from Brielle McInaw, who tallied her fourth and fifth goals of the young season. Jordan Santana extended her goal streak to five games with a strike late in the third quarter. Riley Eaton also picked up her team leading eighth goal of the year.

Abigail McDonald played the role of disruptor for the entire 60 minutes. The sophomore caused three turnovers, collected six groundballs, and helped keep the Skyhawks away from her goalkeeper Skylar Goodman. Goodman was tested often again and made 11 saves. She has now stopped 56 total shots through five games.

The Knights fell behind 3-0 just over three minutes in but were able to tune things up defensively for the remainder of the first half. Nora Codianni and Maeve Chamberlin continued their strong rookie seasons with a goal each in the first 30 minutes. So, after a rocky start, FDU trailed just 5-2 at halftime.

In the third period, the Skyhawks grabbed control of the game. They would outscore the Knights 5-3 in the frame and take a 10-5 lead into the fourth. Despite thwarting a few Stonehill attempts to run away with it, FDU was never able to make up the ground that they needed. The Skyhawks held the Knights to just one goal in the final quarter and secured the 15-6 win.

The Skyhawks earned themselves the larger share of possessions winning 16 of 25 draw controls. FDU closed the gap in that category with seven caused turnovers. FDU also limited Stonehill to 26 shots on goal, the fewest they have allowed in a game this year.

WHAT'S NEXT
FDU will have a full week off before resuming their schedule next Saturday at Manhattan. The first draw control is set for 3 p.m. at Gaelic Park in Riverdale, N.Y. The Jaspers defeated their Knights in their lone previous meeting.
