HACKENSACK, N.J. - Behind a career-high 18 points from
Abaigeal Babore, FDU defeated Wagner by a score of 62-53 at Bogota Savings Bank Center on Friday night. The Knights are now 6-3 in the NEC and are 8-14 overall.
FDU shot just under 41% from the floor and went 7-21 (33.3%) from three. Continuing this trend of improved offense, the Knights had three scorers in double-figures:
Abaigeal Babore (18),
Lilly Parke (12) and
Wilma Sorensen (11).
The Knights found steady production in the first half as they were able to secure a two-point lead to close out the first quarter where FDU shot 41.7% from the floor. With back-and-forth scoring in the first five minutes of the second quarter, The Knights were able to pull away with three minutes remaining in the half with a ten-point lead. Thanks to 11 first half points from Babore, FDU was able to close out the first half with a lead of 33-23.
Despite the Seahawks desperate attempts to cut the deficit coming out of the break, the Knights saw opportunity to utilize their strong defense and score off a Wagner turnover. This resulted in the Knights gaining a 13-point lead early in the third. Even with balanced scoring from both teams, nothing helped the Seahawks close in on the Knights as the quarter closed with an FDU lead of 49-37.
With an early attempt in the fourth to cut the deficit, Wagner came within seven points of FDU that was answered by a Babore triple. With the threat of Wagner taking the lead late in the fourth,
Lilly Parke was able to sink her first three of the night with 56 seconds on the clock to grant the Knights some breathing room with a nine-point lead. FDU ultimately closed out the game with a 62-53 victory over the Seahawks.
The Knights continued their control off the glass as they were able to outrebound Wagner 34-31 with eight rebounds from Babore and seven from
Teneisia Brown.
Staci Williams went 3-4 from beyond the arc that accounted for all nine of her points for the night.
Wilma Sorensen had a career night where she played a career-high of 33 minutes and scored 11 points. This was the first time this season where the freshman guard recorded double-figure points.
