Women's Basketball Preview: FDU at American

HACKENSACK, N.J. – FDU Women's Basketball hits the road for a weekend trip to the DMV, starting off with a road matchup against American University at 12:00 p.m. Friday.

The game will be available to be streamed on ESPN+, and live stats will be available on FDUKnights.com.

The Knights head into the matchup against American looking to make history. The next FDU victory will be the 700th in the career of head coach Stephanie Gaitley. A 700th win would make Coach Gaitley just the 17th Division I Women's Basketball coach to reach that milestone. The Knights will look to accomplish the feat against a tough foe out of the Patriot League in American.

FDU faced off against American last season on December 2, 2023 at home in Hackensack, where the Knights fell 63-57. That Knights loss saw a marquee performance for returning Knight Abby Conklin, who scord 18 points, and tallied five rebounds and five assists. The Knights cut the American lead down late in the game, but ultimately came up short. FDU will look to avenge that loss on Friday afternoon.

Heading into this matchup, the Knights are coming in with momentum after a strong performance against Dominican in the season opener. FDU was led by Teneisia Brown in that affair, who had 22 points and 9 rebounds to lead the way for the Knights. Another Knights name to watch is freshman guard Ava Renninger. The rookie has had a standout start to the season, scoring 20 points in both the Knights' preseason exhibition, as well as the season opener.

American heads into the matchup following a 104-68 loss on the road to the University of Virginia. Despite the loss, American saw solid performances from some of the names to watch on the FDU defensive end. Anna Rescifina, Cecilia Kay, and freshman Ella Pingree each had 14 points apiece to lead the stat category.

The Knights and Eagles will face off at noon on Friday, and FDU will look to pick up a historic win for their coach.
