TEANECK, N.J.- In a commanding performance, the FDU Knights (2-10, 2-2) demonstrated their dominance against Stonehill (0-11-1, 0-4) at University Stadium. From the opening whistle to the final minute the Knights controlled the match securing a comfortable three-goal victory.
1st Half
The Knights asserted their authority early taking the lead in the 14'. Naemi Hausen's precise corner kick found the head of Andrea Ougaard who deftly directed it to Kiomy Luperon. Despite the defensive pressure Luperon showcased her skill with a first-time finish confidently slotting the ball into the net giving the Knights a 1-0 advantage.
FDU maintained their offensive momentum recording eight shots within the first 25', while Stonehill managed only two attempts.
2nd Half
In the 47th minute, the Knights had another excellent opportunity from a corner kick. Ougaard rose above the defenders once again heading the ball on target, but the Stonehill goalkeeper made an outstanding save deflecting the ball away for another corner.
The Knights continued their relentless attack, extending their lead to 2-0 in the 63'. Hausen delivered a superb pass to Salas on wing who with precision, set up Laura Martinez for her first collegiate goal. Martinez controlled the ball with composure and used finesse to perfectly place the ball into the top right corner of the net.
In the 83rd minute Katia Cardaba showcased her tenacity, stealing the ball from a defender and setting herslef up through on goal. With a clinical finish she slotted the ball past the goalkeeper into the bottom right corner marking her first collegiate goal and giving the Knights a commanding three-goal advantage.
The Knights' stellar teamwork and individual brilliance secured this victory. With this impressive performance FDU looks forward to maintaining their winning momentum in the upcoming matches.
"It's always nice to get a win especially with the performances we've been putting in it's great to get the result. Obviously the team was very frusturated about last game but we did a great job of channeling that energy into a positive manner and using it as motivation for today's match." Coach Teepe continued, "Hopefully we can continue playing great soccer this weekend against SFU and be a bit more clinical in the box so we can put games away earlier."
The Knights will be hosting Saint Francis University this Sunday (10/1) at 12 PM as they aim to build on their current momentum. FDU is eager to capitalize on this opportunity and start a winning streak at this crucial part of the season
