TEANECK, N.J.- The FDU Knights (3-10)(3-2) clashed with Saint Francis (2-9)(2-2) at University Stadium, emerging victorious with a comfortable 2-0 scoreline.
1st Half
The match opened with a brief scare for the Knights as Saint Francis seized an opportunity in the 4' when Dziesiaty found Paino in the box. Keeper Marie Jakobsen came off her line but could not secure the ball leading to a shot on target that was blocked off the line by Leighann Kafel.
The turning point arrived in the 24' when Kiomy Luperon showcased her scoring prowess, netting her third goal of the season. Katie Ward's precise delivery found Luperon, who deftly redirected the ball into the net with a first-time finish.
FDU maintained the offensive pressure tallying four shots following the initial goal. The SFU goalkeeper was forced into action and made two crucial saves during the remaining minutes of the half.
2nd Half
In the second half we saw more of the same with one way traffic headed in the direction of the SFU goal.
FDU's control faced a challenge in the 78' when the Red Flash earned a free kick in FDU territory. The subsequent set piece created a chance for SFU testing Jakobsen for the first time in the match. In a moment of brilliance, Jakobsen executed a spectacular fingertip save preserving the Knights' lead.
FDU's insurance goal came in the 88th minute, orchestrated by Helena Lehr. Lehr's impressive solo run saw her maneuver past all of the SFU defenders. Lehr's shot although veering slightly wide found Salas who used her instincts to be in the right place at the right time and tap the ball. This is her fourth goal of the year which solidified the Knights' lead at 2-0.
The Knights have put together back-to-back wins for the first time this season and look to continue building on this momentum. As well as winning back to back games, they have not allowed a goal in just over 180 minutes of play.
"We had a strong week, securing victories in both games without conceding a single goal. Although we missed an opportunity to score that second goal early in the match, overall, it was a satisfying day for us," Coach Teepe commented. "As a team, we emphasized the importance of stringing wins together, and I am pleased that we achieved that. While we've displayed excellent performances before, obtaining the results are a significant step forward."
The Knights will enjoy a week-long break to rejuvenate before their upcoming game against LIU (5-5-1)(2-3) scheduled for Sunday, October 8th, at 11 AM.. FDU will look to capitalize on this momentum and string together three wins in NEC play.
