14 Threes Not Enough To Lift Knights Past Eagles

HACKENSACK, N.J.- FDU dropped their second-straight game on Saturday night at the hands of American. The Knights could not hold onto a slim halftime advantage as they fell by a score of 63-57.

JUMPING OUT OF THE BOX
  • The Knights hit a season-high 14 threes.
  • Abby Conklin dropped 18 points to pace FDU.
  • Nickie Carter connected of five threes from deep and finished with 15 points.

Game Flow

Both teams shot it well out of the gate. The Knights were 6-13 from the field in the first quarter, but could not slow down American, who shot 5-10. FDU led by as many as five, but an Eagle three-pointer with 39 seconds left knotted the score at 19-19 at the end of the period.

Good shooting continued for the Knights in the second quarter. Staci Williams knocked down a triple to open the scoring in the frame. The Knights went 4-7 from downtown and finished the half making nine three-pointers. American would grab a 33-29 lead but back-to-back triples from Carter and Lilly Parke gave FDU a 35-33 lead at the break.

FDU's season-long third quarter struggles continued in this game. They made just two field goals in the third and entered the fourth trailing by six.

The Knights fought back hard in the final period. They cut the lead to two and then three, before Conklin sunk a three to tie things up at 57-57 with 2:54 left. Unfortunately, this would be the last time that the Knights scored. A jumper from American gave them the lead and then a combination of FDU turnovers and Eagle free throws sealed the game for the visitors 63-57.

What's Next

The Knights will look to stop their skid on Wednesday in Stratis Arena against Bloomfield. The game will tip-off at 7 p.m. on NEC Front Row.
