BRIDGEWATER, N.J. - First jump of the season, a new record for FDU men's track and field junior Salif Mane earning him his second-straight Northeast Conference Field Athlete of the Week honor.
Breaking his own facility and personal record at the Ocean Breeze Track and Field Complex in Staten Island, N.Y. on Saturday, January 14 with a mark of 16.67m, Mane set a new program record and registered the top indoor triple jump performance in not just NCAA Division I, but the world according to World Athletics for the 2022-23 season. Per MileSplit New York, Mane's 16.67m jump is the furthest jump by a native New Yorker indoors.
Earning Prime Performer status were several Knights including Conroy Ellis, Mane, Taeco O'Garro and Shantelle Riley. Ellis was the top finisher in the 400m at the Penn 10-Team Select. The senior sprinter covered the distance in 48.69, which is the second-fastest time in the NEC this season. O'Garro had an impressive showing in the triple jump at the Penn Select 10 this past weekend to take runner-up honors in the event. The senior posted the 11th longest jump in the nation this season — and the second-best mark in the NEC behind teammate Salif Mane — after reaching 15.90m. On the women's side, Riley took runner-up honors in the 200m at the Penn Select 10. The senior's time of 24.36 is the fastest in the NEC to date this season.
FDU track and field returns to action on Friday, Jan. 20 when the Knights return to Staten Island for the Gotham Cup.
