NEW YORK, N.Y. - FDU Men's Track and Field was named the METS Champion after totaling a dominant number of 179 points to win the meet on Saturday afternoon at Icahn Stadium. The FDU Women placed in second at the meet with 96 points, finishing behind St. John's.
The FDU men were led by
Xavier Hayletts,
Ethan Ruffin, and the members of the 4x800 relay team, all of which won their respective events, and Ruffin's mark of 2.10 meters in the Men's High Jump was good enough for him to win Field Event MVP for the Men's Meet.
"Today was a strong day across both programs. Competing for team titles in track is never easy, but we took meaningful steps forward as a group. We crowned six METS individual champions and
Ethan Ruffin continues his historic sophomore campaign, earning Men's Field MVP of the meet," Elia G. Stratis Head Coach of Cross Country and Track and Field
Wesley Stephens said.
The women's squad was led by efforts from
Tata Coulibaly, who won the Women's 100 meter hurdles event, as she was surrounded by Knights around here at the top of the leaderboard at the conclusion of the event.
Nya Blades finished in fourth, Reyanna Trail took fifth, with
Emmanuella Koroma finishing in sixth.
Laila Davis was another Knight who brought home a gold, as Davis finished in first in the Women's Hammer Throw event.
The Knights will take to the track next for the Rutgers Relays in New Brunswick, N.J. on Saturday, April 11th. Action from the track is set to start at 9 a.m.
