Scouting the Leopards
Despite opening the 2021 season with a 1-0 loss at UNC Wilmington, the Leopards have bounced back for two-straight home victories heading into Tuesday's match on the Hackensack. On August 30, the side notched a 2-1 victory against Keystone State foe Drexel before blanking Northeast Conference member Mount St. Mary's (Md.) 3-0 on September 3. Leopards senior forward Marcos Kitromilides was named the Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week Monday after netting both goals scored in Lafayette's first win of the campaign. Kitromilides also picked up assists on two of his side's three goals against the Mountaineers.
Scouting the Knights
Seth Roland's Knights look to redeem themselves following Friday's 3-2 loss to Penn at University Stadium. Penn scored once in the 4' and again in the 23' before senior Noah Chia buried an assist from fellow senior Diego Arribas in 44'. Not even four minutes of playing time later, Arribas would score a goal of his own to even the tally at two. For Arribas, the score was his first since October 26, 2019, at St. Francis Brooklyn when the Madrid, Spain finished the conference match with a brace (two goals scored). Arribas did not play in the 2020-21 fall-to-spring season due to injury. Also in the Penn match, junior Vinícius Cadengue made his first appearance in the Burgundy and Blue - earning the second half start. Cadengue played all 45 minutes of action in the final period and recorded a save on three shots faced. As a team, the Knights outshot the Quakers in the second half 8-3. According to the NCAA Statistics office, the Knights rank 20th in Division I - through games played on September 5 - in shot accuracy with the Knights making 17 shots on goal on 31 attempts (.548 percentage).
Coach Roland's Thoughts
"Lafayette will present some unique challenges because they have someone who can throw the ball approximately 50 yards so we have to be able to defend that and their set pieces well. They've played in the last two Patriot League championship games so they are seasoned, experienced and fit. I like how we've been playing in attack, but we need to be a little sharper in and around the goal. Defensively we need to eliminate lapses and tighten things up a bit. Overall we are looking forward to this challenge."
