Women's Basketball Adds Perretta and Mordi to Support Staff

Perretta joins as the team's Graduate Assistant while Mordi joins the staff as Director of Player Development.

HACKENSACK, N.J. -- Fairleigh Dickinson women's basketball head coach Angelika Szumilo confirmed on Thursday the joining of Christian Mordi and Stephen Perretta to her staff ahead of the 2021-22 season.

Perretta joins FDU as the team's graduate assistant after spending his undergraduate career at Villanova University. Perretta will serve as an on-court coach for the Knights and will be on the road recruiting alongside assistant coaches Jessica Simmonds and Kaity Healy. A member of the class of 2021, Perretta spent 2017-19 as a women's team practice player under his father, legendary Villanova women's basketball coach Harry Perretta. In addition to his time within the Villanova basketball program, Perretta also has coached at the AAU level in addition to serving as the head coach for Archbishop John Carroll High School's girls' program, and an assistant to the varsity program.

Szumilo said on Perretta's addition to the staff, "Stephen is an aspiring coach with a very bright future. He's eager to get started and help this program reach new heights. I am excited for Stephen's contributions as a coach to support and elevate our program."

Mordi joins FDU in the role of Director of Player Development following a superb youth coaching career. Mordi spent time as a coach with the 17U and 16U EYBL teams for the Nike-sponsored NYC Exodus program. Prior to that, he also served as the associate head coach at Christ the King High School in Newark, where he helped lead the Knights jump from 13-13 in his first season to 23-5 in his third and final season with the program.

On the hire, Szumilo, "Christian is an experienced coach who has coached on various levels throughout his career. He brings outstanding experience and is passionate about investing in the growth of our players -- not just on the court but also off the court. His knowledge and understanding of the game are great additions to our continued growth as a program."
