Martínez-Montoya and Waterman Earn NEC Weekly Award Honors

TEANECK, N.J. -- The Fairleigh Dickinson women's soccer team claimed at least a share of all three NEC weekly awards for the second time this season. Aitana Martínez-Montoya took home Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week honors, while Christa Waterman earned a share of the Defensive Player of the Week award.

It was a banner week to a conference season that has gotten better and better for Martínez-Montoya. The freshman forward notched both goals in the 2-0 away victory over Sacred Heart, and followed that up with the game-tying goal in the 2-1 win against Central Connecticut State. No one has scored more conference goals than Martínez-Montoya, who has logged five goals in the five games of conference play. She is the team leader in goals with six and points with 13.

For Waterman, the Defensive Player of the Week nod is the reward for helping helm the back-line for the two big victories last week. Waterman played all 90 minutes in both matches, helping keep a clean sheet against Sacred Heart and scoring the game-winning goal against CCSU. Waterman has been a part of all seven clean sheets this season and, as a senior leader, has been a crucial part of the defense throughout the entire season.

The Knights are back in action on the road on Thursday, October 14, at 7 p.m. against Wagner. FDU returns home for a men's and women's doubleheader on Sunday, October 17, with the Knights women hosting Bryant at 12 p.m., and the men hosting LIU at 7 p.m.
