STRATFORD, N.J. – The Fairleigh Dickinson women's bowling team sent eight members to compete in the USBC Singles Championship Sectionals Friday, and three bowlers qualified to advance to Nationals.
FDU sophomores
Aimee Sherman and
Amanda Chrzanowski each finished within the top six individuals, with Sherman coming in fourth with a total score of 1,294 pins and Chrzanowski was right behind her with a total score of 1.275 pins.
Recent FDU graduate and current grad student
Karsyn Lukosius, who was eligible to compete as well, topped all bowlers with a total of 1,394, finishing nearly 70 pins ahead of the next individual. Lukosius had competed in the USBC Singles each of the last two years, missing the cut by four pins two years ago and by only two pins last year.
All three individuals move on to compete in the USBC Singles National Championship held in Dayton, Ohio from April 17-20.
"Amanda and Aimee have worked so hard to evolve all aspects of their game, and it's always nice to see it pay off," head coach
Mike LoPresti said. "It's also awesome that Karsyn topped the field. She absolutely killed it out there, and after being one notch below the cut line the last two years, it had to be sweet revenge for her."
For Chrzanowski, this will be her second straight year advancing to the national event after winning the sectional qualifier last year. This is now the third straight year an FDU bowlers was the top individual in the Northeast Sectional round, and it is the first time in program history that multiple athletes are advancing to the national competition.
Lukosius finished five of her six games played with scores over 200, including a 279 in her second game and a 299 (one away from a perfect score) in her third frame.
Sherman also knocked down at least 200 pins in five of six games with a high score of 254 in her opening round. Chrzanowski rolled back-to-back games of 241 and 266 in the third and fourth frames on her way to making her final tally.
Junior
Samantha Hart was the next highest FDU finisher, coming in 26th with 1,143 pins and a high score of 241 in her second frame. Freshman
Lanasia Neal totaled 1,090 pins with a high of 205 in finishing tied for 46th, and junior
Brianna MacLeod also cracked the top 50 with 1,085 pins including two games in which she knocked down over 200 pins (234 in her first game, 211 in her fifth game).
Sophomore
Jenna Henderson (59th) and senior
Amy Caruso (89th) also competed for the Knights.
The Knights return to team competition next weekend at the Northeast Finest Tournament in New Castle, Delaware, beginning March 16.
