HAMILTON, N.J. – The Northeast Conference announced the 2018-19 All-NEC women's bowling teams and major award winners Friday morning, and Fairleigh Dickinson women's bowling sophomores
Aimee Sherman and
Amanda Chrzanowski each earned first-team honors.
The honor for Chrzanowski is her second All-NEC award after making the second team last year. Sherman earns her first conference honor of her career.
On Sherman and Chrzanowski earning All-NEC, head coach
Mike LoPresti said, "That's so great for them and great for our program. They're kids who weren't really recruited by the perennial powers. There's no substitute for experience, and that's what they have to gain while they're competing. To see how they have evolved their games and how much they have matured, it's exciting for us and for them. More importantly, it bodes well for our future, they're only sophomores. From the time we recruited them, we felt that sophomore core was going to be the nucleus of our program for the future, and right now that's showing to be true."
Chrzanowski has filled 83.2 percent of her frames and averaged 19.58 pins per frame in NEC matches this season. She totaled 484 strikes for a 46.7 strike percentage. Chrzanowski also earned
NEC Player of the Week in January after guiding the Knights to a fourth-place finish at the Kutztown Invitational, filling 87.5 percent of her frames and averaging 20.59 pins per frame.
Sherman averaged 19.53 pins per frame in conference matches and filled 85.4 percent of her frames, striking on 43.6 percent of her attempts. Sherman also led the Knights in NEC play by converting 74.2 percent of her spares, including 82 percent of her makeable spares.
"It just feels really good," said Sherman on earning the all-conference honor. "[Amanda] and I put a lot of work in and it feels good to be rewarded and to know that our hard work is paying off this season."
This marks the ninth time since 2009 that the Knights have multiple players garner first-team honors, and the Knights have had a bowler make the first team in 11 straight years, with multiple players in nine of the 11 years.
The Knights won the first match of the Northeast Conference Championships against Duquesne to advance to the double-elimination bracket. They continue their march to a fifth conference crown later this afternoon against top-seed Saint Francis U, and action can be seen on the live stream on
NEC Front Row.
