Knights Take On Gotham Cup

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. --  The Fairleigh Dickinson men's and women's track and field teams completed the Gotham Cup Friday evening at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex, earning  a number of top-ten finishes on the afternoon.

On the men's side, Yourry Tapande Ngombe picked up a seventh-place finish in the 60 with a time of 7.03 to kick things off for the Knights.  Tapande Ngombe also took fourth in the 200 meters with a time of 21.91. Nasir Velez also participated, finishing with a final time of 22.93.

In the 400, Keion Oglesby and Sandley Elysee teamed up to take the eight and nine spots with times of 50.30 and 50.46.  

Shevan Parks earned a bronze in the 1000 meters, running a final time 2:27.00, earning an IC4A qualifying mark in the process. 

In the jumps, Oglesby took 10th in the high jump, while Taeco O'Garro completed the long jump. O'Garro also took sixth in the triple jump with a mark of 14.09 meters.  Anthony Eme also competed, finishing with a mark of 6.21 meters.  

Ben Clay III set a new PR in the weight throw with a final mark of 14.76 meters and also took fifth overall in the shot put with a mark of 14.84 meters.  Austin Gere took 13th in shot put with a mark of 13.13 meters.  

"The throwers are progressing in their specialties every week," head coach Sharlene Millwood-Lee said.  "We have a young group and Coach Riddick is working hard for them to be contenders in our conference."  

For the women, Kylia Smith started things off for FDU, taking home the gold in the 60 meters with a final mark of 7.56, while Madeline Price earned a fourth-place mark at 7.83. 

Gabrielle Charles made her season debut in the 60 hurdles with a time of 9.21, while Shanice Watkins earned another top-three finish in the 400, running a final time of 56.55 to take bronze. Jazmyn Lewis took eighth while Danielle Griffith took home the number 11 spot in the 400. 

Jodi Alston earned a 13th-place finish in the 200 with a mark of 26.28.

In the field events, Shancie Watkins took home a ninth-place mark with a final mark of 1.60 meters. 

Sarakaye Freeman, Kylia Smith, and Akemi Dwyer took home the 2-3-4 spots in the long jump with marks of 5.54, 5.53, and 5.47.

Anika Dwyer took home fifth in the triple jump at 11.63 meters, while Nicole Dawson finished ninth. 

In the throws, Ashley Convery took 21st in the weight throw.
