Knights Set For NEC Tournament Clash With Saint Francis U

HACKENSACK, N.J. -  The Fairleigh Dickinson University women's basketball team takes on the Saint Francis University Red Flash in the quarterfinals of the 2018 NEC Tournament Wednesday evening in Loretto, Pa.  The eighth-seeded Knights take on the No. 1 overall seed Red Flash in their third meeting of the season.

The game will be available via live stream on NEC Front Row and ESPN3.

QUICK HITTERS

• The Knights are playing in the NEC Tournament for the fourth straight season. It is the first time since 2006-09 that FDU has made four consecutive postseason appearances.

• Wednesday will be just the second time that Saint Francis U and FDU have met in postseason play.  Their previous matchup was a 72-59 SFU win back in 2011.

• FDU has six wins in the NEC Tournament all time. Three came in 1990 and 1992. Both of those seasons FDU won the NEC Tournament.

• Sunday will be the fifth time in the last two seasons that SFU and FDU have faced one another.

SERIES SCORE

The Red Flash have won both of their matchups with the Knights this season, defeating FDU 80-61 in Loretto on February 19 and 80-56 at the Rothman Center in Hackensack back on December 31.  Saint Francis leads the all-time series 41-22, including a 22-9 record in Loretto.  SFU has one its last four matchups against the Knights, with FDU's last victory coming back in 2016.

LAST TIME OUT

FDU fell on the road against Sacred Heart in their regular season finale on March 4 by a final score of 61-48.  The Knights were held under 50 points for just the 5th time this season.  After a stretch of four consecutive games with at least 20 turnovers, the Knights took much better care of the ball against SHU, finishing with just 12 giveaways on the afternoon.  Amina Markovic led the Knights offensively with 17 points as well as a team-high eight boards. Madelynn Comly finished with a team-leading four assists to go along with 13 points.  Though the Knights trailed for the majority of the game, they managed to cut SHU's lead to just four points (34-30) late in the third quarter, however the comeback attempt fell short.

ABOUT THE RED FLASH

SFU enters the tournament as the #1 overall seed after finishing with an overall record of 21-9, including a 16-2 mark in NEC play.  The Red Flash boast the most potent scoring offense in the conference, averaging 81.1 points per game.  SFU has three players averaging double-figures in scoring, including junior guard Jess Kovatch who's 24.0 points per game leads the entire NEC.  Freshman guard Caitlyn Kroll was named the NEC Rookie of the Weeks six times during the 2017-18 season, including her most recent win last week.

NEC TOURNAMENT

The Knights have made the NEC Tournament in four straight seasons for the first time under Peter Cinella. Cinella has guided the Knights to the NEC Tournament eight times in 11 seasons.

REVERSE A TREND

The Knights will try to end an 19-game Northeast Conference Tournament losing streak. That streak spans 25 years. Since 2000, the Knights have never been the higher seed in any of their 12 losses over the last 17 seasons.
