No. 9 Bowling Begins NEC Fall Meet

MECHANICSBURG, Pa. – The ninth-ranked Fairleigh Dickinson women's bowling team suffered two close losses and finished 1-2 in the first day of the Northeast Conference Fall Meet Saturday afternoon.

The Knights (37-16) dropped best four-of-seven Baker matches to no. 12 Sacred Heart and Mount St. Mary's and defeated St. Francis Brooklyn in the first of two days of conference matches. FDU averaged 185.8 pins per game for the day, the third best among the seven NEC teams competing, and totaled 3,159 pins across 17 games.

"Tough day today," head coach Mike LoPresti said. "Made too many mistakes and lost too many close games. We need to regroup, heal up, and play much better tomorrow."

Juniors Samantha Hart and Brianna MacLeod along with sophomore Aimee Sherman started in all three Baker matches, with sophomores Amanda Chrzanowski and Deborah Epps making two starts while sophomore Jenna Henderson and freshman Lanasia Neal started one of three Baker matches and subbed in for the other two contests.

Facing their toughest opponent of the day in Sacred Heart first, the Knights fell behind, 3-0, with two losses by single-digit pin margins. FDU remained alive by taking the fourth game, 180-141, as well as the fifth game, 234-178, after making some adjustments. Sacred Heart, however, held off the Knights in the sixth game, with the Knights coming up four pins short of forcing a seventh game and instead falling 4-2.

The Knights bounced back with a 4-0 sweep of St. Francis Brooklyn. FDU rolled a 253 in the first game, its highest individual game score of the day, and won each of the next three games by over 20 pins in earning the four straight victories.

FDU ended the day in a back-and-forth battle with Mount St. Mary's. The teams split each of the first six games, with the Knights picking up points in the second, third and sixth games. Mount won the first game by only six pins and the fifth game by a single pin, and the Knights' win in the sixth game set up a deciding seventh game for the match. Mount, however, saved its best effort of the match for the end and came away with the 4-3 match win.

The Knights continue the meet Sunday with three more Baker best four-of-seven matches, facing Saint Francis U, Duquesne and LIU Brooklyn. Check back here at fduknights.com at the end of the day for further updates.
