SOMERSET, N.J. – Fairleigh Dickinson women's bowling junior
Samantha Hart earned Northeast Conference Bowler of the Week, as announced by the conference office Wednesday afternoon.
Hart played an instrumental role in helping the Knights go 11-0 and win the Virginia Union Invitational this past weekend in Glen Allen, Va. The North Greenbush, N.Y., native first contributed to two of the Knights' five baker match victories on Friday against Felician and Virginia State, coming off the bench to spark rallies in both wins.
On Saturday, the junior subbed into the sixth frame of the team's second traditional match of the day against Coppin State, going clean by filling the remainder of the frames to help stabilize the back end of a victory. She followed that performance up by rolling a 190 vs. Norfolk State and a 222 against Bowie State, the highest score of any Knight during their traditional matches. She finished with an average of 194.67 over three rounds, also the highest average by a Knight.
Hart really shined, however, in the Knights' two best-of-seven baker playoff victories over NEC rival Saint Francis U to capture the tournament championship. Starting in the leadoff position for both rounds, Hart filled 95 percent of her frames (19 out of 20) and rolled 11 strikes while averaging 22.0 per frame in the two games against the Red Flash.
The Knights have won each of their last 14 matches dating back to the previous weekend's tournament at Caldwell and have been victorious in 19 of their previous 21 overall. FDU has scored 900 or better in eight of the 14 victories during the streak.
FDU hopes to continue its winning ways this weekend when the team travels to Milwaukee, Wis., for the UWW Warhawk Classic starting Friday, November 9, and ending Sunday, November 11.
