HACKENSACK, N.J. – The Fairleigh Dickinson women's basketball team returns from its Thanksgiving break with a home game against Howard on Sunday, November 25, starting at noon in the Rothman Center.
The game will be streamed live on NEC Front Row, and live stats will be provided at fduknights.com for fans that cannot attend the game in the Rothman Center.
ENTERING THE KNIGHT
The Knights (2-2) are coming off a victory on Tuesday over NJIT, 64-43, which snapped a two-game losing streak. FDU allowed the Highlanders to score only three points in the final quarter in going on a 17-3 run to close out the game. The Knights created 20 turnovers for the second time this season and shot 45.5 percent from the floor while also holding NJIT to a 2-for-12 night from beyond the arc.
CAREER-HIGHS
Junior
Lauren Francillon shrugged off some early woes by scoring a career-best 18 points in 22 minutes, going 7-for-14 from the floor and making 3-of-4 foul shots while also grabbing a season-best six rebounds. Her previous career high was when she scored 16 points against CCSU last season. Sophomore
Madison Stanley also grabbed eight rebounds to set a new personal best as well.
THE MARCH TO 500
With the win on Tuesday, the Knights moved their program win total to 498, needing only two more victories to reach 500 wins. FDU is on pace if it wins each of its next two games to achieve the 500th victory in a game at Binghamton on Friday, November 30.
ARMOR MADE OF STEAL
FDU leads the NEC and ranks as one of the top 50 teams in Division I in steals per game through four games. The Knights average 11.8 steals per game, recording 11 in their win over NJIT. FDU has recorded at least seven steals in each of their four games, with a high of 21 in the opener vs. Rutgers-Newark. Consequently, the Knights also rank in the top 50 in the nation in turnover margin (+6.5, 35th) and turnovers forced (22.0 per game, 43rd).
OUT OF OUR LEAGUE? NO PROBLEM
The Knights have gone 10-5 dating back to the start of last season in non-conference games, winning each of the 10 games by an average of 16.5 points per game. FDU has won seven of the 10 games over that stretch by double-digits and are 8-2 in the Rothman Center in non-conference tilts heading into Sunday's game.
SERIES SCORE
FDU and Howard are tied with a record of 4-4 in the all-time series dating back to 1981. Howard has won each of the past two meetings by three points, both last season in Washington, D.C. (68-65) and two years ago in the Rothman Center (71-68). Each team has won two of three games on the other team's home court. FDU last defeated Howard back in 2010.
SCOUTING HOWARD
The Bison (2-2) have lost two straight games after starting the season with wins over NJIT and La Salle. In their previous game, the Bison fell to Siena, 86-81, after leading by 12 points heading into the fourth period. Junior Sarah Edmond leads the team with 20.8 points per game, scoring a season-high 27 points vs. Siena. Freshman Krislyn Marsh leads Howard with 11.3 rebounds per game. Edmond and junior Ayonna Williams, who leads the team with 4.0 assists per game and 3.0 steals per game, were picked as preseason All-MEAC team players, and Howard was tabbed to finish fourth in the MEAC preseason poll. Last season, the Bison finished 12-18 and lost in the MEAC quarterfinals.
AROUND THE NEC
Four other NEC teams are also playing on Sunday. League-leader St. Francis Brooklyn (4-1) travels to Seton Hall, while Sacred Heart, who is tied with FDU for second place in the standings, faces Monmouth at home. Saint Francis U hosts Duquesne and Bryant goes to New Hampshire to round out the rest of the games with NEC teams.
