SOMERSET, N.J. – Fairleigh Dickinson women's bowling sophomore
Deborah Epps was named the Northeast Conference Bowler of the Week Wednesday afternoon, as announced by the league office.
This marks the third straight week that the Knights have earned an NEC weekly award, and the second week in a row that a Knight received the Bowler of the Week recognition.
Epps played a major role in helping the Knights earn eight wins in the UWW Warhawk Classic this past weekend, with five of the wins coming against opponents ranked in the NTCA Top-25.
On Friday, she was in the lineup to help the Knights take down sixth-ranked Stephen F. Austin as well as Lincoln (Mo.).
On Saturday, Epps subbed in for the 10th frame of the first match and then followed with a game of 202 against 14th-ranked Lincoln Memorial, continuing her consistent play with a 188 in the win over Youngstown State, a 207 vs. second-ranked McKendree and then a huge 257 to help the Knights defeat third-ranked Nebraska.
Epps then was in the lineup for each of the Knights' three Baker playoff victories on Sunday, including wins over two ranked teams (Lincoln Memorial and no. 22 Maryville). Epps on Sunday averaged 22.45 pins per frame with 23 strikes out of 34 and 88 percent (30-for-34) frames filled.
For the tournament, Epps finished with a 21.32 frame average in traditional matches and 20.11 in Baker matches, totaling 48 strikes.
The Knights (28-9) return to action this weekend when they travel to compete in the UMES Hawks Classic, hosted by Maryland-Eastern Shore, from Friday, November 16, through Sunday, November 18.
