Fencing Wraps up Northwestern Duals

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The Fairleigh Dickinson women's fencing team wrapped up competition at the Northwestern Duals, held at Notre Dame on Saturday and Sunday.
 
The Knights opened up play on Saturday with a 19-8 victory over the University of Incarnate Word [UIW]. Fairleigh Dickinson earned a 7-2 win in Saber with Hana Ramdedovic leading the way.
 
Ramdedovic earned three points for the Knights, beating Alexandra Krick, Torissa Martinez and Bianca Jimenez. Jillian Habersaat added two points with wins over Martinez and Jimenez as well. Isabella Garcia beat Jimenez and Isabella Demoya defeated Martinez to round things out for Fairleigh Dickinson.
 
The Knights also earned an 8-1 victory in foil. Nadine Abdelaziz and Anna Braun each picked up three points for the Knights, defeating Elizabeth Lares, Myrka Boyd and Cissy Gutierrez. Carly Edelman picked up the final two points, defeating Lowes and Gutierrez.
 
The Knights were edged, 5-4, in Epee. Emily Gifford picked up two wins, defeated Anita Kaduru and Monet Moreau. Natalia Toby Jennifer Vernon added a point apiece with wins over Kaduru as well.
 
In round two, the Knights fell to Air Force, 18-9. Fairleigh Dickinson fell 9-0 in Saber.
 
The Knights fell 7-2 in both Foil and Epee. Braun picked up the lone two points for the Knights in Foil, defeating Ellie Ryan and Waverly Hock. In Epee, Toby picked up a win over Helen Landwehr and Gifford defeated Jackie Orcutt.
 
Fairleigh Dickinson had a bye in the third round and moved on to battle Cal Tech. The Knights swept all three areas, 9-0, for a total score of 27-0.
 
Cal Tech had no participants for Saber, giving the Knights the automatic points. In Foil, Braun, Abdelaziz and Edelman each defeated Pei Wang and Mei-ling Laures while also earning points from Cal Tech forfeits in the third spot.
 
In Epee, Cal Tech had just one competitor – Christina Meyer – who was downed by Gifford, Toby and Vernon. The Knights picked up extra points due to forfeits.
 
In round five, Fairleigh Dickinson was narrowly defeated by UCSD, 16-11.
 
The Knights earned a 5-4 win in Epee. Gifford and Toby each picked up two points each for the Knights, defeating Catherine Hallsten and Christine Drake-Thomas. Vernon added the final point with a victory over Hallsten.
 
Fairleigh Dickinson fell 5-4 in Saber. Garcia led the way, going 3-0, with wins over Charlotte Stender, Monique Zhou and Mary Gilchrist. Habersaat also defeated Gilchrist for the final point of the round.
 
The Knights were edged 7-2 in Foil. Braun picked up both points for the Knights, with wins over Erica Ho and Sophia Holmquist.
 
Fairleigh Dickinson fell 21-6 to the host team, Northwestern, in round six.
 
The Knights were swept, 9-0, in Saber. In Foil, Fairleigh Dickinson lost 7-2. Abdelaziz and Braun picked up the Knights' points with wins over Kimmy Fishman.
 
Fairleigh Dickinson came the closest in Epee, falling just short, 5-4. Toby and Gifford each defeated Ella Lombard and Katie Van Riper to pick up the Knights' points.
 
The Knights resumed play on Sunday, beginning with Princeton. Fairleigh Dickinson was swept in both Saber and Foil and only scored one point in Epee. Toby defeated Anna Van Brummen for the lone point.
 
Next up for the Knights was Stanford. Fairleigh Dickinson fell to the Cardinals, 19-8, led by a strong Saber performance. Stanford swept the Knights 9-0 in Saber.
 
Fairleigh Dickinson fell just short in both Foil and Epee, losing 5-4. Braun picked up three wins in Foil, defeating Cindy Torma, Christie Dawson and Anna Widder. Abdelaziz also beat Widder for the final Knights' point. In Epee, Toby and Gifford each picked up two points for the Knights with wins over Adrienna Yang and Chantel Yang.
 
The next round played out nearly exactly the same – 19-8 – but this time it was against Notre Dame. The Knights were swept in Saber, 9-0, and fell in Foil and Epee, 5-4.
 
In Foil, Braun picked up two points for the Knights, beating Erin Dietsche and Samantha Viquera. Edelman defeated Kellsey Mone and Abdelaziz added a win over Zoe Loh for the Knights.
 
In Epee, Gifford and Toby both picked up two points. Toby defeated Julia Barry and Katherine Wallace. Gifford defeated Kate Clarke and Erin Coscia.
 
Last up for the Knights was University of Detroit Mercy which the Knights beat handily, by a score of 24-3.
 
Fairleigh Dickinson swept Epee, 9-0 while letting up just one point in Foil and two points in Saber.
 
The Knights are back in action on Saturday at home for the FDU Invitational. It is the only home meet all season and will be held at Stratis Arena inside the Rothman Center.
