Box Score TEANECK, N.J. –
Carly Tice (Highland Falls, N.Y./James I. O'Neill) scored in a third straight game and
Felicia Burr (Bellingham, Mass./Blackstone-Millville) recorded her third shutout of the season to help Fairleigh Dickinson snap Hartford's six-match unbeaten streak with a 1-0 win at University Stadium.
"It was a good solid win", said head coach
Eric Teepe. "I thought in the first half we did a better job of getting forward and we moved the ball around well. I think we need to learn how to close out games as well, it is good for us to be in this type of situation."
Tice scored in the sixth minute when she put home a loose ball after defenseman Emma Donnelly made a save off Tice's original shot. The goal is Tice's team-leading and Northeast Conference-leading sixth of the season.
Elma Kolenovic (Manhattan, N.Y./NYC Lab) had the assist after she put a shot on goal from the left side of the box that was mishandled by Jessica Jurg.
After the goal, neither team was able to generate play in the opposing attacking third. Hartford (6-2-1) was able to stymie the Fairleigh Dickinson (5-5) attack going forward and limited the Knights to seven shots in the opening 45 minutes. The Knight defense limited the Hawks to five shots.
Hartford had a few chances inside the first 10 minutes of the second half, but none forced Burr to make a save.
Patricia Seitz (Pfungstadt, Germany/Baden-Wurttemberg) had shot from the top of the 18 in the 76th minute, but it was right at Jurg in the Hawk goal.
Katey Arathoon (Pickering, Ontario/St. Mary's ) had a chance to provide Fairleigh Dickinson with some breathing room, but her shot in the 78th minute was saved by Erica Ingram of Hartford to keep the score at 1-1.
In the final nine minutes, Hartford had four chances to tie the score but all four were either blocked by the FDU backline or put over the crossbar. A shot from outside the 18 by Sidney Spremullo was blocked with 12 seconds to play. Burr made three saves on the night.
Fairleigh Dickinson concludes non-conference play on Sunday when Columbia comes to University Stadium for a 12 p.m. start. The game is part of a double-header with the men's team, who play Stony Brook at 5 p.m.
