Box Score 2 NEWARK, N.J. – The Fairleigh Dickinson baseball team split a doubleheader with NJIT on Sunday afternoon in Newark. The Knights finish the day at 14-18 on the season, while NJIT is 18-17-1 on the year.
The Knights scored two runs in the fourth inning and added an insurance run in the top of the seventh to take game one by a 3-1 score. In the second game, the Highlanders scored six runs in the second inning on the way to an 8-0 victory.
The Knights won the first three games of the weekend to take the series from the Highlanders.
GAME ONE – FDU 3, NJIT 1Senior
Joe Borelli (Wallingford, Conn./Mark T. Sheehan ) tossed 5.2 scoreless innings to earn his second consecutive victory and improve to 2-4 on the season. Borelli allowed just two hits and two walks against the Highlanders.
Senior
Eric Snyder (Slatington, Pa./Northern Lehigh) earned the save by pitching the final 1.1 innings. It is his ninth save of the season and the 31st of his career. Snyder allowed a run in the bottom of the seventh, but worked out of further trouble. He scattered three hits and did not walk a batter.
Junior
Ryan Brennan (Mooresville, N.C./Mooresville) had the big hit for the Knights with an RBI double in the fourth inning. He would also score later in the frame on an RBI ground out by junior
John Giakas (Staten Island, N.Y./Tottenville).
Brennan was the only Knight with two hits in the game. As a team, FDU registered five hits, while limiting the Highlanders to five.

GAME TWO – NJIT 8, FDU 0The Knights allowed six runs in the second inning and the FDU offense was unable to get much going against NJIT starter Johnny Malatesta. The Knights collected just three hits in the game and drew only one walk. Malatesta improves to 5-2 with the win.
The Knights offense in the game came from Moonan who connected for a pair of hits, including a double.
Junior
Logan Frati (Manorville, N.Y./Eastport/South Manor) started for the Knights and surrendered six runs, five earned in four innings. He falls to 3-4 on the season with the loss.
Senior
Anthony Calise (Pearl River, N.Y./Pearl River) pitched a single scoreless inning of relief in the fifth and senior
Yonah Perline (Dix Hills, N.Y./St. Dominic) worked the sixth.
Sprague had the third hit for the Knights.
The series with NJIT was the last scheduled non-conference games for the Knights. The team will return to action next Friday at the Naimoli Family Baseball Complex against LIU Brooklyn.
