Box Score 2 TEANECK, N.J. - The Fairleigh Dickinson baseball team dropped a Northeast Conference doubleheader to Wagner on Saturday at the Naimoli Family Baseball Complex. The Knights fall to 7-15 on the season with the losses, while Wagner improves to 12-11-1. FDU is 1-6 in NEC action, while the Seahawks are 5-2 in conference.
GAME ONE - WAG 3, FDU 0Sophomore
Joe Flack (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Peter's Boys) pitched seven innings and allowed just three runs, but the Knights were unable to score off Wagner starting pitcher Mike Adams.
FDU recorded just two hits in the game with senior
Riley Moonan (Syracuse, N.Y./Cicero North) singling to left in the first and sophomore Matt McCann dropping down a bunt single in the second.
The Seahawks scored three runs in the fifth inning. A bases loaded fielder's choice scored the first run of the game and a double by Nick Mascelli plated the second run, with the final run of the inning coming in to score as the ball was bobbled in the outfield.
Flack scattered three hits and five walks, but surrendered three runs over his seven innings. He did not strike out a batter.
For Wagner, Adams walked seven and allowed two hits over 6.2 innings to earn the victory. Steven Bloodworth recorded the final out of the seventh inning to earn the save.
GAME TWO - WAG 6, FDU 2Wagner scored single runs in the first, second and third innings to take a 3-0 lead. FDU answered with a single run in the bottom of the third inning off the bat of junior
John Giakas (Staten Island, N.Y./Tottenville). Junior
Ryan Brennan (Mooresville, N.C./Mooresville) walked and moved to second on a single by junior
Patrick McClure (Fayetteville, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius ) before scoring on the RBI single by Giakas.
Wagner plated two runs in the fifth inning and added a single run in the seventh to pull in front 6-2.
Junior
Joel Roman (East Hartford, Conn./East Hartford) delievered a pinch-hit solo home run to lead off the sixth inning to cut the deficit to 6-2, but the Knights would not score again in the frame. The homer was the third of the season for Roman.
Brennan doubled to lead off the seventh, but FDU was unable to rally and he was stranded on the bases.
Junior
Ryan McGrath (Lansingburgh, N.Y./Lansingburgh) started the game and worked 3.2 innings. He allowed three earned runs on five walks and five hits. Seniors
Yonah Perline (Dix Hills, N.Y./St. Dominic),
Eric Snyder (Slatington, Pa./Northern Lehigh) and
Anthony Calise (Pearl River, N.Y./Pearl River) all pitched in relief. As did freshman
Max Wolfe (Norman, Okla./Norman ).
In the sixth inning, Wagner had bases loaded and no one out, but Calise induced a ground ball to short, which turned into a 6-2-5-4 triple play. McCann fired home to force the lead runner, McClure then threw to third to force the next runner and freshman
Bobby Romano (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan ) turned and threw to junior
Dylan Sprague (Brunswick, N.Y./Averill Park) at second base for the final out.
Anthony Battaglia earned the victory for the Seahawks. He tossed 3.1 innings and allowed one run on two hits and a walk. Matt Morris started for Wagner allowing one run over 3.2 innings.
The Knights and Seahawks will conclude the series with a single game on Sunday. First pitch from the Naimoli Family Baseball Complex is scheduled for 1 p.m.
