Last Time Out
Fresh off a heartbreaking one-point home loss to Robert Morris that featured a mammoth second half comeback, the Knights again came scorching out of the halftime break on Monday night against Saint Francis University and defeated the Red Flash, 78-63. Down 32-27 after a sluggish first half, the Knights kicked off the second period with a 10-5 run to tie the game up at 37. The visitors continued to maintain a slim lead until the 13:06 mark when junior guard Kelsey Cruz (Chester, Va./Lloyd C. Bird), the NEC's third-leading scorer, drilled a three-pointer to take a two-point lead, largest of the game for the hosts. After a pair of Anastasia Williams (Central Islip, N.Y./St. John the Baptist Diocesan) free throw makes, part of her career-high 13 points (all in the second half), Alexa Hayward cut the lead to one with a three but sophomore forward Valerie Oyakhilome (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Lindenhurst) answered with one of her own. Hayward and Oyakhilome would each make another on the next two possessions. Williams gave her team a 10-point cushion with six straight points and Cruz's long-range bomb would end up sparking a 35-19 run to finish the game.
