Box Score MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – Two goals by freshman
Elma Kolenovic (Manhattan, N.Y./NYC Lab) were enough for the Fairleigh Dickinson women's soccer team to win their tenth straight and finish Northeast Conference play at a perfect 8-0.
The Knights, who had already clinched the Regular Season Title, become the eighth team to finish an NEC season unbeaten and untied—last was Saint Francis U in 2012. Fairleigh Dickinson (14-5, 8-0 NEC) will face Saint Francis on Friday in one semifinal. Robert Morris (9-10, 5-3 NEC) will take on Bryant in the two versus three-game on Friday as well.
The Colonials struck first in the 19th minute when Madison Kozlowski put home her third of the season. The senior one touched the ball after it went through a crowd from a Robert Morris free kick. It was the first time the Knights had trailed in NEC play this season.
Kolenovic did not let the Knights trail for very long. The Manhattan, New York native equalized in the 25th minute when took a pass from
Jessi Reinhardt (Friedberg, Germany/Burggymansium) at the top 18 and converted from 16 yards out.
Esther Rochon (Saint Romuald, Quebec/College Francois-Xavier-Garneau) and
Rachel Hoekstra (Bowmanville, Ontario/Clarington Central) both forced saves from Chelsea De Jager in the early portions of the second half.
Just past the hour mark Kolenovic put the Knights ahead when she volleyed in a cross from
Mackenzie Reese (Moon Township, Pa./Moon Area ). De Jage got a piece of it with her foot, but it was not enough to keep the ball out of the goal.
Deanna Persico (Aurora, Ontario/Cardinal Catholic) got her first career start in goal today and picked up her first career win. The freshman made two saves on the afternoon.
The Knights will try to extend their eight-game home winning streak this weekend at the Northeast Conference Tournament.
