W. Basketball at Sacred Heart on Saturday

HACKENSACK, N.J. -- The Fairleigh Dickinson women's basketball team (1-18, 0-8 NEC) begins a short weekend conference road swing on Saturday by traveling up to Fairfield, Conn. to take on second-place Sacred Heart (9-10, 6-2 NEC). Tipoff at the Pitt Center is scheduled for 2 p.m. and will be broadcast live on NEC Front Row.
 
Last Time Out
The Knights led first-place Robert Morris more than halfway through the second half on Monday night but ultimately fell to the Colonials, 67-58. Senior Desiree Crawford (Aurora, Ontario/Cardinal Carter Catholic) and Amanda Andrades (Virginia Beach, Va./Princess Anne) shared a team-high 14 points, while Crawford also corralled a team-best seven rebounds. Freshmen Kiana Brown (Richmond, Va./Hermitage) and Valerie Oyakhilome (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Lindenhurst) continued their improved play in conference and each played solid minutes down the stretch. Brown had a team-high five assists, and Oyakhilome had two crucial three-pointers in the final minutes to keep the game close.

What You Need To Know: The Pioneers own a winning record against every single NEC opponent all-time, and are at it again this season with a 6-2 record despite being 3-8 outside of conference play. Sacred Heart has also won its last six home games Junior guard Gabriell Washington, First Team All-NEC performer a season ago, is one of the NEC's premier scorers, averaging over 21 in conference play, and is the lone Pioneer to start every game this season. Washington averages 8.2 long-distance attempts per game, hitting at a 41% clip, and averages 7.0 rebounds per game as well. Sacred Heart also has three other players averaging double-digits since conference play began: Junior guard Katie Shepard (13.3), sophomore forward Hannah Kimmel (11.6), and freshman guard Adaysha Williams (11.2). All four players average a steal per game, and Shepard chips in 5.3 assists per game.

FDU will make the short trip to Brooklyn Heights, N.Y. to face St. Francis Brooklyn in a conference rematch on Monday, Feb. 3 at 7 p.m. The Terriers rallied from 11 points down late against the Knights back on Jan. 6 at Stratis Arena to pull out a 57-55 victory.
