ITHACA, N.Y. -- The Fairleigh Dickinson women's tennis team dropped its fourth consecutive match, as it fell on the road to Cornell, 7-0, on Saturday. With the victory, the Big Red improves to 4-0 on the season, while the Knights fall to 2-4 overall.
FDU fell behind 1-0 after Cornell took all three doubles matches to earn the doubles' point. The Knights' best effort came at No. 3 doubles, as sophomore
Dina Guzairova (Sochi, Russia/Chelyabinsk #8 ) and junior
Manuela Leme (Varginha, Brazil/E.E. Antania Alves Cruz) narrowly fell to Christy Kung and Laila Judeh, 8-6.
In singles, FDU was swept in straight sets in five of the six matches. In the final outcome of the day, senior
Egzona Morina (Prishtina, Kosovo/American School of Kosovo) gave the biggest fight at No. 2 singles, falling in three sets, 2-6, 6-1, 7-6 (5), as she just missed picking up a point for the Knights in the third-set tiebreaker.
“Although we lost 7-0 to a strong Cornell team, I could see some things we work on at practice staring to come together,” Assistant Coach Thiago Dualiby said. “I also saw a very dedicated FDU team throughout the entire match.”
FDU will have 17 days off before returning to action for its first home match of the spring season against Fairfield on Tuesday, March 19. First serve at the FDU Tennis Courts is scheduled for 3 p.m.
