Familiar Faces For Women’s Tennis Highlight the All-NEC Awards

BRIDGEWATER, N.J.- Two FDU Knights who boasted sensational spring campaigns take home the biggest NEC yearly awards. Anastasia Lim secures the Player of the Year Award, while Sophia Fredericks-McKee takes home the Rookie of the Year Award. Both players were additionally named to the NEC All-Tournament team following FDU's second place finish.  

In her farewell tour with the Knights, Anastasia Lim secured her first listing on the First Team ballot after making the Second Team last spring. Lim boasted strong non-conference wins over Delaware, St. Johns, and Morgan State, while continuing her strong play within the NEC, including wins over opponents from SFU and Wagner. Lim earned a conference topping four NEC Player of the Week Awards, playing her entire season at the top flight. Lim ended her season 15-12, including a 4-1 NEC finish. 

Sophia Fredericks-McKee ends her debut season as the NEC Rookie of the Year. Fredericks-McKee took home three Rookie of the Week awards during the regular season, as well as worked her way into the Knights' second flight slot during spring play. Fredericks-McKee logged 23 individual wins, including 10 of them playing at the second slot. She was also named the the NEC's All-Rookie Squad.      

Lim also joins her partner Yelena Kim as one of the three duos to make the First Team Doubles list. FDU's top flight doubles team finished 11-13, and secured three straight wins to round out the regular season. The duo added a victory in the first round of the NEC Championship. 

Kim additionally found herself as the only Knight on the Second Team All-NEC list. Kim ended her career with the Knights strong, with wins in four of her last five matches. Kim also boasted singles wins over Penn and Morgan State, as she shined at the third flight singles position. Kim ended the campaign with a 14-19 record, including a four match winning streak during NEC play.

FDU's other freshman Oleksandra Ovsiienko secured a spot on the NEC's All-Rookie squad, following an 18-15 singles slate. Ovsiienko took the fall by storm, winning the Binghamton Invitational and representing the NEC at the ITA Masters. Her success continued into the spring, taking home a pair of Rookie of the Week awards. Ovsiienko added critical wins for the Knights in the first two rounds of the NEC Championship, where she played at the fourth flight.
