Women's Tennis Advances to Second Straight NEC Championship Match

WEST WINDSOR, N.J.- FDU Women's Tennis is on their way to a second straight NEC Championship appearance. The Knights secured wins in the first two rounds after entering as the top seed in the bracket. 

Their quarterfinal matchup with #9 Binghamton began late in the evening, with the darkness having no affect on the Knights. FDU completed the 4-0 sweep over the Bearcats, after making short work of the doubles point. In the singles matches, Valentina Silva wrapped the match for the Burgandy and Blue in the fifth flight.

In the Knight's semifinal matchup, #4 Wagner took the doubles point early. The Seahawks won the second and third flights to lead 1-0. Individual play helped the Knights get back in front, with the top four flights ending in favor of FDU.

The first year duo of Sophia Fredericks-McKee and Oleksandra Ovsiienko helped the Knights clinch the match. Fredericks-McKee mounted a momentum shifting rally to take her first set 7-6, before completing the matchwith a 6-2 second set. Ovsiienko was the clinching match for FDU, winning in the fourth flight.
