W. Basketball Welcomes Columbia Sunday

HACKENSACK, N.J. -- The Fairleigh Dickinson women's basketball team will continue its four-game homestand Sunday afternoon when it hosts Stony Brook at Stratis Arena for a 2 p.m. contest.

The Knights were defeated at home Thursday night in a hard-fought contest with Stony Brook, 68-58. Junior Amanda Andrades (Virginia Beach, Va./Princess Anne) led FDU with a career-high 16 points and dished out four assists, while sophomore Kelsey Cruz (Chester, Va./Lloyd C. Bird) came off the bench to add 13 points. FDU shot 52.2 percent in the second half to finish the game at 47.6 percent (20-of-42) but only converted 3-of-16 from behind-the-arc. The Seawolves just shot under 50 percent (14-of-29) over the final 20 minutes to shoot 45 percent (27-of-60) for the contest. Stony Brook held a 32-23 advantage on the glass, including a 12-2 lead on the offensive end, which led to a 9-2 advantage in second-chance points. The Seawolves also turned the ball over 11 times while forcing the Knights into 20 miscues, resulting in a 22-13 advantage in points off turnovers.

What You Need To Know: Stephanie Glance enters her first season as the Lions' head coach, coming to Columbia with more than two decades of experience and having worked under two legends of women's basketball, Pat Summitt and Kay Yow. The Lions opened up the season with a road victory at LIU Brooklyn (62-59), before losing their next three games to San Francisco (83-69), Lafayette (95-83) and Cal State Fullerton (80-54), with the last coming Friday afternoon. Carolyn Binder leads Columbia in scoring at 17.5 points per game and is shooting 46.2 percent (12-of-26) from three-point range, while Miwa Tachibana adds 11.8 points per game.
