Box Score

HACKENSACK, N.J. -- The Fairleigh Dickinson women's basketball team was defeated by Siena, 82-58, Saturday afternoon at Stratis Arena. With the victory, the Saints improve to 1-1 on the season, while the Knights fall to 0-3 overall.

Sophomore Brianna Thomas (Baldwin, N.Y./St. John the Baptist Diocesan) came off the bench to lead FDU with a career-high 17 points and just missed a double-double with a career-best nine rebounds. Fellow classmate Anastasia Williams (Central Islip, N.Y./St. John the Baptist Diocesan) added a team-high 10 rebounds, and senior Desiree Crawford (Aurora, Ontario/Cardinal Carter Catholic) chipped in nine points, eight rebounds and four blocks.

"Brianna Thomas (Baldwin, N.Y./St. John the Baptist Diocesan) really stepped up with great energy, and Desiree Crawford (Aurora, Ontario/Cardinal Carter Catholic) battled hard the entire game," Head Coach Peter Cinella said. "We have to do a better job of defending, making free throws and taking better care of the ball. Siena has a lot of good young talent, and they have a bright future ahead."

Siena led from the opening tip and never looked back. The Saints took advantage of the Knights' poor shooting in the first half (20.6 percent) to lead at the break, 36-23.

The Knights were able to trim the deficit down to nine at 44-35 with 14:55 remaining, but Siena responded with a 15-5 run to extend its lead to 59-40 with 10:53 left in the game.

FDU was never able to get closer, as the Saints cruised to the 82-58 victory.

The Knights shot better in the second half but finished the game shooting 25.7 percent from the field, while Siena converted at a 37.5 percent clip. Siena also won the rebounding battle, 59-52, although FDU held a 26-22 edge on the offensive glass.

The Knights will return to action Thursday, Nov. 21 when they host Stony Brook for a 7 p.m. contest at Stratis Arena.
