W. Tennis Wraps up Stony Brook Classic with Chis' Flight C Title

Day Three Results

STONY BROOK, N.Y. -- The Fairleigh Dickinson women's tennis team capped the opening weekend of action at the Stony Brook Classic with freshman Nicole Chis (Highland Park, N.J./Highland Park) winnning the Flight C finals on Sunday.

Chis found herself in an early hole after dropping the first set of Sunday's final to Navy's Gabby Winter, 4-6. The Highland Park, N.J. native evened the score at one set apiece with a 6-4 win of her own in the second set.

In the third-set tiebreaker, Chis was able to come away with a 10-7 win to earn the Flight C crown.

The win improves Chis' singles record to 4-0 so far in her young career. In Friday's first round matchup with Bryant's Jovana Hadzi-Tanovic, Chis scored an 8-1 victory to advance to Saturday's action. She earned her spot in the finals with a 6-2, 3-6, 10-5 win over Amherst's Sarah Monteagudo in the quarterfinals before beating Lorraine Saavedra of Army, 6-3, 6-0, in the semifinals.

Next weekend, FDU will be back in action for the Army Invitational in West Point, N.Y. Play will get underway on Friday, Sept. 21, and run through Monday, Sept. 24.
