TEANECK, N.J. -- The Fairleigh Dickinson men's soccer team will look to bounce back from its disappointing season-opening loss to Stony Brook with a Tuesday home match against Patriot League member Lafayette. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at University Stadium.
The Knights struggled to find any sort of rhythm and flow in their 5-0 loss against the Seawolves last Friday, which featured two own goals. Junior goalkeeper
Jacob Lissek (Highlands Ranch, Colo./Rock Canyon) was peppered with shots all night long and made some difficult saves as he finished with eight for the match, falling one short of his career high. Senior midfielder
Jack McVey (Douglas, Isle of Man/St. Ninian’s ) took a team-high six shots with two coming on goal, including one that hit the top of the crossbar.
The Leopards will be playing their first match of the 2012 season on Tuesday night, which will be the first of three consecutive matches on the road. Selected to finish fifth in the eight-team Patriot League, Lafayette, who received two first-place votes, returns eight starters and 18 letterwinners from a squad that finished 2011 with an overall record of 9-5-4. Senior midfielder Sean Peckham and sophomore defender Julian Plummer were selected to the conference's inaugural Preseason All-Patriot League Team. Peckham has been a First Team All-Patriot League selection each of the past two seasons, while being named Second Team All-Mid Atlantic Region. Plummer was selected to the Patriot's League Second Team and was named the conference's Rookie of the Week twice during the year. Lafayette allowed only nine goals last season en route to posting seven shutouts, while playing seven overtime matches.
FDU and Lafayette are meeting for the sixth time in the all-time series that dates back to 1989. The Knights won the first match 2-1, but the Leopards have won the last four between the two schools, which last played against each other in 1999.
