The Fairleigh Dickinson baseball team will play its final home series of the season this weekend when they host Mount St. Mary's in a four-game NEC series. The series will begin on Friday with the first contest moving up from 3:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Naimoli Family Baseball Complex in Teaneck, NJ. Saturday will feature a pair of seven-inning games, while the finale is set for 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, which will feature a Senior Day ceremony before the game honoring seniors
Mike Eliasen (Swedesboro, NJ/Gloucester Catholic),
Matt Holsman (Coral Springs, FL/Stoneman Douglas),
Ryan Kresky (Freehold, NJ/Freehold) and
JT Sherba (Binghamton, NY/Binghamton).
Last Time Out: The Knights (21-21-1, 15-9 NEC) traveled to first-place Bryant last weekend and earned a series split with the Bulldogs, winning the middle games of the series, despite hitting a measly .185 (20-for-108) and scoring 10 runs over the four contests. Holsman hit .308 (4-for-13) with a run scored to lead FDU. Freshman
Pat McClure (Fayetteville, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius ) collected a team-high three RBIs, while fellow classmate
Shane Siebler (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth Area) scored a team-best three runs.
Freshman RHP
Joe Borelli (Wallingford, Conn./Mark T. Sheehan ) and Eliasen each picked up wins on the mound for FDU in the series. Borelli mixed up his pitches well in the DH opener as he allowed one earned run on six hits in 6.0 innings of work to improve to 3-1 on the season. Eliasen did not allow a hit until the fourth and was looking for a complete-game shutout heading into the seventh inning but ran out of gas as the Bulldogs tagged him for three earned runs on three hits in their final at bat. Freshman
Eric Snyder (Slatington, Pa./Northern Lehigh) had a productive day as he picked up both saves in the doubleheader, while establishing a new record in the process. The tall right-hander tied
Spencer Kelly (Rockville, MD/The Bullis School) (Class of 2011) for most saves in a single-season with nine in the game one win and broke Kelly's record with his 10th save in the nightcap to become the all-time single-season saves leader at FDU.
Notes:
• FDU's 21 wins are the most since 1999 when they won 22 games.
• FDU's 15 NEC wins are the most since the 1994 season when they went 15-6 in conference play.
• With the series split against Bryant, FDU saw its NEC series win streak snapped at four but still has not lost a conference series since losing three of four at Monmouth to start the year. The Knights have won 15 of their last 21 NEC contests.
• FDU is currently in third place in the NEC but holds the second playoff spot, three games behind projected no. 1 seed Monmouth.
