The Fairleigh Dickinson baseball team will host the Blue Devils of Central Connecticut State in a four-game NEC series beginning Friday at the Naimoli Family Baseball Complex in Teaneck, NJ. Because of the threat of inclement weather this weekend, Friday and Saturday will feature one doubleheader each day starting at 1:00 p.m. Friday's first game is scheduled for nine innings with the second game slated for seven innings. Game one on Saturday will also be seven innings, while game two will consist of nine innings.
Last Time Out: FDU (16-17-1, 10-6 NEC) snapped its three-game losing streak on Wednesday with a 9-8, 10-inning victory at Siena. The Knights jumped out to a 3-0 lead before seeing the Saints rally to tie the game at three. FDU went back on top at 4-3, but Siena scored twice to take its first lead of the game, 5-4. With two outs in the top of the seventh, the Knights scored four times to take an 8-5 lead, only to see the Saints come back to tie the game at eight in the bottom of the eighth inning.
In the top of the 10th, freshman
Pat McClure (Fayetteville, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius ) led off the inning with his first career home run to give FDU a 9-8 lead. Fellow classmate
Eric Snyder (Slatington, Pa./Northern Lehigh) retired Siena in order in the bottom half of the frame to secure the win for the Knights.
Senior
Matt Holsman (Coral Springs, FL/Stoneman Douglas) paced the FDU offense (12 hits) out of the lead-off spot with a 3-for-5 effort with two runs scored and a walk. Junior
Kyle Weeks (Middle Island, N.Y./Longwood) broke out of a slump with two hits, including a double, scored two runs scored and a RBI.
Freshman
Shane Siebler (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth Area) added two hits and two RBI's, and fellow classmate
Riley Moonan (Syracuse, N.Y./Cicero North) collected three RBI's with a bases-loaded double in the seventh inning, while senior co-captain
Ryan Kresky (Freehold, NJ/Freehold) drove home two runs with a pair of sacrifice flies. Kresky also collected his 200th career hit to extend his hitting streak to 11 games and is the third FDU player to record at least 200 hits in program history.
Scouting Central Connecticut State: The Blue Devils (18-16, 11-9 NEC), who were picked to finish third in the nine-team NEC, are currently in a tie for fourth place with Wagner, one spot behind the Knights. CCSU won a non-conference game against UMass at home on Tuesday, 11-2. Last weekend, the Blue Devils split their four-game NEC series with Monmouth at home.
CCSU is led on offense by senior catcher AJ Lowers, who has only played in 20 of the Blue Devils' 34 contests. He is hitting .364 (16-for-44) with four doubles, nine runs scored and 11 RBIs. Sophomore infielder Josh Ingham is hitting .324 (23-for-71) with 14 runs scored and 12 RBIs. Junior infielder Tyler McIntyre is CCSU's top power threat, leading the team in both home runs (5) and RBIs (22).
As a team, the Blue Devils are hitting .272 (287-for-1057) and have scored 159 runs (4.7 runs per game). CCSU has struck out 171 times, drawn 102 walks and has committed 43 errors (.964 fielding percentage) on defense. Opponents are hitting .279 (294-for-1053) off Blue Devils' pitching and have scored 170 runs (5.0 runs per game), drawn 98 walks and struck out 173 times as the pitching staff has recorded a team ERA of 4.46.
All-Time Series: CCSU holds a commanding 28-11 advantage in the series, but the Knights have split the four-game series with the Blue Devils the past two seasons.
