W. Basketball Looks for Win at Wagner

The Fairleigh Dickinson University women's basketball team will travel to Staten Island, NY on Monday, Feb. 18 to face Wagner in their final road tilt of the season.  Tip-off at Spiro Sports Center is slated for 7:00 pm.

The Knights will be looking to rebound after a tough loss at Mount St. Mary's on Saturday.  After shooting just 10.5 percent from the floor in the first ten minutes of play, the Mountaineers went 10-for-21 on shots from three-point range, including 6-for-10 in the second half.  MSM also went 16-for-20 from the free-throw line to out-score the Knights, 51-62.

With the loss, the Knights dropped to 12-15 on the season, with a 7-8 mark in the Northeast Conference.

Freshman Erika Livermore (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth Area) led the Knights with her sixth double-double of her career, amassing 13 points and 11 rebounds.  Senior Mariyah Laury (Orange, NJ/Orange) also added 13 points for FDU.  The Livermore-Laury duo leads the team with 11.3 and 17.3 points per game, respectively.

Wagner is 2-24 on the season, with a 1-14 record in the NEC.  The Seahawks average 52.5 points per game, 16 fewer than their opponents, while bringing down 37.2 rebounds per game.  Kelly Clark leads Wagner with 14.4 points per game and 7.9 rebounds per game.

The Seahawks are currently on a 19-game losing streak, which includes the Knights' 86-49 win on Jan. 9.

The Knights saw five double-digit scorers in the Jan. 9 win.  Laury led the team with 27 points, while Stephanie Isaacs (Fair Haven, N.J./Rumson-Fair Haven) had 12 points on four three-pointers, Danielle Pankey (Middletown, N.J./Middletown South) added 11 and Livermore and Torrie Childs (Trenton, N.J./Trenton Central) each put up ten.

In last year's 83-71 win over Wagner at the Spiro Sports Center, Laury set the FDU program high with 38 points.  The point total broke the facility record at the time.  Laury recently broke her own record with 42 points against Monmouth.

Monday will be the 62nd meeting between the Knights and the Seahawks.  The Knights hold the advantage with 31 wins and 30 losses in games dating back to 1978.  FDU has earned the win in 12 games since 2005.

The Knights will host the NEC Brooklyn-based teams next weekend.  Tip-off against St. Francis NY is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 25 at 4:30 pm.
