The Fairleigh Dickinson University women's basketball team will take on Monmouth University on Saturday, Feb. 11 as part of Northeast Conference Rivalry Week. Tip-off at the MAC is slated for 3:00 pm as part of a men's/women's double-header.
The Knights are 11-13 on the season with an even 6-6 mark in Northeast Conference play after defeating second-place Quinnipiac, 74-65, on Monday. Freshman Erika Livermore (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth Area) led the Knights with 23 points and 14 rebounds. She earned her fourth Choice Hotels NEC Rookie of the Week award for the performance.
Livermore's 11.0 points per contest add to senior Mariyah Laury (Orange, NJ/Orange)'s team-leading 16.3 points per game. Livermore leads the team with 7.0 rebounds per game. As a team, the Knights are averaging 57.5 points per game, with 40.8 boards per 40 minutes. FDU averages 8.3 assists per game, with 20.5 turnovers.
The Hawks of Monmouth are tied for third place with an overall record of 13-10 and a conference mark of 8-4. After falling to Bryant and defeating CCSU the weekend before, the Hawks lost to Quinnipiac, 75-63 last weekend.
After a one-point first half against league-leader, Sacred Heart, the Hawks out-scored the Pioneers, 37-16 in the final 20 minutes to take the win, 70-50. Alysha Womack led the charge with 27 points. Womack was named NEC Player of the Week for her lights-out shooting against SHU.
Womack leads the Hawks with 14.8 points per game, but she is averaging 16.4 points per NEC contest. Abby Martin adds 11.0 points and 6.1 rebounds per contest.
Under first-year Head Coach, Jenny Palmateer, Monmouth averages 60.9 points per game as a team, while allowing their opponents 62.4 points. They have shot 37.9 percent from the field through 23 games, while picking up 38.4 rebounds, 13.5 assists and 17.7 turnovers per game.
Saturday will be the 68th meeting between the Garden State foes. Monmouth holds the advantage, with 45 wins and 22 losses, including two wins during last year's Rivalry Week series. In 2011, FDU fell, 54-59 at home and 48-67 at the MAC.
The last time the Knights defeated Monmouth was a 60-54 win on December 8, 2008.
The Knights will face Monmouth again on Wednesday, Feb. 15 as Rivalry Week concludes with a 7:00 pm tip-off at the Rothman Center.
