HACKENSACK, N.J. --
The Fairleigh Dickinson women's basketball team, who will be playing for the first time since Dec. 11, will travel to the campus of Lehigh University to participate in the Lehigh Christmas City Classic in Bethlehem, Pa. this weekend. On Saturday, the Knights will face Boston University before taking on Binghamton on Sunday. Tipoff for both contests is scheduled for 2 p.m. and will take place at Stabler Arena.
The Knights (4-5) are winners of three in a row and four of five after defeating Stony Brook on the road last time out, 56-49. FDU shot a season-high 43.5 percent (20-of-46) from the field, including a season-best 42.9 percent (6-of-14) from three-point range, while holding Stony Brook to only 31.5 percent (17-of-54) from the floor and 6-of-25 (24 percent) from behind the arc. Both sides recorded 37 rebounds and struggled from the free throw line, with the Knights shooting 10-of-21 and the Seawolves 9-of-17.
Redshirt junior Danielle Pankey (Middletown, N.J./Middletown South), who played 39 minutes, led the way with a career-high 21 points on a career-best eight made field goals on 18 attempts, grabbed six rebounds and recorded three assists. Sophomores Erika Livermore (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth Area) and Stephanie Isaacs (Fair Haven, N.J./Rumson-Fair Haven) each added 11 points. Livermore pulled down a game-high 14 rebounds for her seventh double-double of the season, dished out a season-best three assists and picked up two steals. Isaacs came off the bench and knocked down 4-of-5 shots, including 3-of-4 from three-point range.
Pankey leads FDU in scoring, averaging 15.1 points per game average. She is also averaging 5.7 rebounds per contest and leads the team in steals (16) and made three-pointers (10). Livermore is averaging 13.3 points and a team-high 11.3 rebounds per game, while shooting a team-best 50.6 percent (44-of-87) from the field. She has recorded seven double-doubles in nine games this season, which is tied for fourth in the country.
BOSTON UNIVERSITY
Boston University (8-3), who is picked to finish second in the nine-team America East Conference, has won five straight games and is currently ranked No. 14 in the latest CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top 25 Poll. The Terriers most impressive win is a 66-49 victory at home over No. 17/15 St. John's on Dec. 1. BU opened its season with a 52-46 home victory over Boston College before falling narrowly to No. 14/22 West Virginia, 60-57.
The Terriers are led by senior guard Chantell Alford, who is averaging a team-best 18.9 points per game and is shooting a team-high 43.9 percent (36-of-82) from three-point range, while averaging 5.5 rebounds per game and registering a team-best 24 steals. Senior guard Mo Moran adds 10.8 points, 4.6 rebounds and 7.1 assists per game, which is sixth best in the nation, and also has 24 steals. Junior forward Rashidat Agboola chips in 9.7 points and a team-best 9.1 rebounds per game, while junior guard Danielle Callahan comes off the bench to score 9.3 points per game and shoot 41.5 percent (22-of-53) from three-point range.
The Knights and the Terriers will be meeting for only the fifth time in the all-time series, which dates back to the 1980-81 season, with BU leading, 3-1. FDU won the first ever meeting, 78-77, on Jan. 23, 1981, but the Terriers have won the last three, including the last meeting, 78-64, on Dec. 28, 2003.
BINGHAMTON
Binghamton (1-10), who is picked to finish eighth in the nine-team America East Conference, has won once on the season (Dec. 8 at Buffalo, 65-60) but has faced a tough nonconference schedule against the likes of St. Bonaventure, Siena, Arizona State, UNLV and Syracuse. The Knights and the Bearcats have two common opponents in Siena and Syracuse, who both picked up easy victories over FDU and Binghamton.
The Bearcats do not have any players averaging double figures in scoring but are led by junior guard Jasbriell Swain, who leads the team in scoring (9.7 ppg), rebounding (7.5 rpg), assists (32) and steals (30). Sophomore forward Sherae Swinson is averaging 9.3 points per game and is shooting a team-best 42.6 percent (43-of-101) from the field.
The Knights and the Bearcats will only be meeting for the third time in the all-time series, with each team winning once. FDU won the first matchup, 75-64, on Nov. 23, 2005 at Stratis Arena before Binghamton won the next season on its home court, 53-49, on Nov. 22, 2006. Current assistant coach Jennifer Walkling scored a game-high 20 points and pulled down a team-high eight rebounds in the loss.
Following the Lehigh Christmas City Classic, FDU will open Northeast Conference play at Wagner on Saturday, Jan. 5 at 1 p.m. in Staten Island, N.Y.
