The Fairleigh Dickinson women's fencing team competed in the NJIT Invitational on Sunday, Nov. 21, squaring off with NJIT and Hunter on the day.

Roger Cummings was pleased with how his team performed. “Our sabre and epee women did well, while foil is gaining experience,” Cummings said.
The Knights finished with a pair of 5-1 performances in sabre courtesy of sophomore
Hanna Heldenmuth (Miami, Fla./Keystone National) and junior
Genele Streitz (Mendham, NJ/West Morris Mendham High School). Freshman
Kathryn Heaney (Teaneck, N.J./Teaneck) also had a respectable 3-3 mark on the day.
In epee, again FDU finished with two athletes with 5-1 records. Junior
Christine Forsythe (Hackettstown, NJ/Hackettstown) and senior
Annie Kazarjan (Budapest, Hungary/Koecsey Ferenc Gimnazium) both won five of their six bouts, while senior
Evgeniya Tyrtova (Omst, Russia/Liceum #66) put together a 3-3 outing.
First-year members of the team, freshman
Yeliz Inalman (Fort Lee, N.J./Fort Lee) and sophomore
Meena Murugappan (Lusaka, Zambia/The International School of Lusaka ) continued in their development in foil.
The Knights will have two weeks to prepare for the Christmas Invitational in Jersey City, NJ on Sunday, Dec. 4. The competition is set to get underway at 8 a.m.
