W. Basketball to Begin Season at Boston College

The Fairleigh Dickinson University women's basketball team will open the 2011-12 season at Boston College on Friday, Nov. 11.  The Knights will take on the Eagles at Conte Forum at 11:00 am.

The 11:00 am tip-off times kicks off the 2011-12 NCAA women's basketball season.

The Knights return four seniors from last year's Northeast Conference tournament team.  Mariyah Laury (Orange, NJ/Orange) was an NEC First-Team selection after the 2010-11 season and was named a preseason All-Conference team member.  Laury scored 457 points last year, averaging 15.2 points and currently has 1,401 career points.

Esther Wallace (Springfield, MA/Springfield Central) will lead the team from the post position.  Wallace set the single-season block record for FDU last year with 75.  She will be a key contributor on defense.

The Knights have six newcomers on the roster this year.  Transfer student, Torrie Childs (Trenton, N.J./Trenton Central), joins top freshmen Amanda Andredes and Erika Livermore (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth Area)

FDU went 14-16 during the 2010-11 season and earned a spot in the Northeast Conference tournament.  They return

Boston College finished the 2010-11 season with a 20-13 overall record including a 5-9 mark in the Atlantic Coast Conference.  They averaged 77.9 points per game last season, while allowing 69.1 points.  They consistently out-rebounded opponents, with a +7.7 rebound differential.

The Eagles return just two of their five starters from last year, Kristen Doherty and Kerri Shields.  Shields and Doherty combined for 20.0 points per game last season.

The Knights' strong defensive abilities should limit the Eagles' scoring attack.

FDU will host Yale on Monday, Nov. 14 at Stratis Arena in Hackensack, NJ.  Tip-off is slated for 5:00 pm.
