The Fairleigh Dickinson University women's basketball team will host Northeast Conference opponent, Bryant University on Thursday, December 9 at 7:00 pm. The Knights will look to begin a win streak after defeating Yale in New Haven, CT on Monday, December 6. The Bulldogs are 1-6 this season and will attempt to begin conference play with a win at the Rothman Center.
This will be the fifth time FDU and Bryant have met since Bryant began competing in the Northeast Conference in 2008. In their first two years of competition FDU and Bryant each took one win a season with FDU defeating the Bulldogs on the first meeting and Bryant taking the win in the rematch.
The Bulldogs are led by a veteran coaching staff of Mary Burke who entered her 20th season at the helm this year. Burke is 270-268 all time as head coach and is assisted by Mark Caruso (11th year), John Hogan (10th year) and Lynne-Ann Kokoski (2nd year).
In their third season at the Division I level the Bulldogs had a program-best 13-15 record. Since that time Bryant lost eight letter winners and two starters.
Bryant started the season with a five-game losing streak, dropping games to Penn, Lafayette, Maine, Brown and Dartmouth before picking up their first win against Air Force. In their most recent game the Bulldogs fell to Weber State, 49-51.
The Knights are hot off of a big win at Yale on Monday. FDU was led by 16 points from junior Jasmyra Saunders (Trenton, NJ/Trenton Catholic), 13 from junior Mariyah Laury (Orange, NJ/Orange) and 11 points from sophomore Alannah Driscoll-Sbar (Northampton, MA/Northampton). Esther Wallace (Springfield, MA/Springfield Central) led the team in rebounds, grabbing 6.
The Knights will play nearby St. Peter's on Sunday, December 12 at 2:00 pm before taking ten days off. On December 22 FDU returns home to take on NEC opponent Central Connecticut State at 7:00 pm.
