Baseball's Comeback Thwarted at San Francisco in 7-4 Loss

The Fairleigh Dickinson University baseball team fell, 7-4, Friday, March 21 at the University of San Francisco.  The Dons climbed above .500 improving to 11-10 ? while the Knights slipped to 2-12.

 

San Francisco struck early, plating a run in the bottom half of the first.  They added another run in the fifth, its second RBI via a sacrifice fly.  In the seventh, the Dons' advantage was stretched to 3-0 on another sacrifice fly.

 

Fairleigh Dickinson junior southpaw John Meadus (Mt. Holly, NJ/Holy Cross) received a no decision, striking out five through seven innings.  USF senior right-hander Mitchell Bialosky sat down seven, logging seven innings.

 

Senior outfielder John Paganotti (Staten Island, NY/St. Joseph By The Sea) singled to left field ? his second hit of the afternoon ? creating a 3-1 deficit in the eighth.  With the sacks full, junior Zachary Sand (San Diego, CA/Mission Bay) walked in a pinch hit role.   Junior Matt Maher (Peekskill, NY/JFK Catholic) ripped a pitch back through the box, plating a pair ? good for a 4-3 advantage.

 

A four-run rally in the bottom of the frame sunk FDU, by virtue of a two-out, RBI double, followed by a  two-run base knock.

 

Freshman righty Sean Burns hurled the final two innings to collect the win, while FDU freshman right-hander Zachary Kisling suffered the loss.

 

Two Dons accounted for five RBI.

 

The Knights finish their west coast swing with a twin bill at 11:00 a.m. (PST), Saturday, March 22 in San Francisco, CA.
