FDU Drops Wednesday Clash With Iona

Box Score NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. - FDU Baseball (19-11, 13-2 NEC) fell for a second straight day in a midweek matchup, as the Knights fell on Wednesday afternoon to the Iona Gaels (9-17, 5-7 MAAC) at Flowers Park.

The game started with both starters exchanging zeros on the mound, as FDU starter Neylin Navarro got through the first inning, but then ran into some trouble in the bottom of the second. The Gaels created some traffic with a single, a walk and a pair of stolen bases, and Iona was able to cash in with runners in scoring position, grabbing two runs on a single that gave them a 2-0 lead after two innings of play.

The Knights would cut the Iona lead in the fourth inning when Nick Quagliato scored Garryn Plummer on a sacrifice fly that made the score 2-1 Iona.

The score would stay 2-1 until the bottom of the seventh when Iona scratched across another run on a bases loaded, RBI walk. The Gaels pitching staff would shut the door from there, holding the powerful FDU offense to just two hits and one run.

WHAT'S NEXT

The Knights will look to bounce back this weekend, as the top two teams in the NEC will be in action as FDU will take on Stonehill in a three game series at Naimoli Family Baseball Complex. The first pitch for the series is set for 3 p.m. on Friday afternoon.
